iMotorbike, Southeast Asia’s leading motorcycle platform for buying and selling pre-owned motorcycles, has officially launched its roadside assistance service, iM Rescue, following a successful several-month beta phase that saw strong early demand among Malaysian riders.
As part of iMotorbike’s commitment to rider safety and convenience, iM Rescue provides immediate on-site assistance for common motorcycle issues such as battery failures, flat tyres, chain problems and minor electrical faults.
Based on iM Rescue beta service data, battery-related and inability-to-start cases account for 55 per cent of roadside assistance requests. This highlights common starting and maintenance issues among riders and the importance of preventive care. Demand is also higher on weekday mornings, especially between 10 am and 12 pm.
There are more than 18.9 million registered motorcycles in Malaysia, but even then, the population of motorcycle users in the country continues to increase. Recent data from the Road Transport Department shows that a significant number of vehicles have not had their road tax renewed for more than five years, with motorcycles accounting for the largest share of inactive registrations. This reflects broader long-term usage realities that may affect many commuters, small businesses and delivery riders who rely on their motorcycles for daily work and income.
Operational insights from the iM Rescue beta phase also show that 82.5 per cent of users are non-subscribers, indicating strong demand for quick and accessible roadside assistance beyond current ownership or service networks. Around 15 per cent of requests come from outside Kuala Lumpur, including Johor Bahru and Penang, showing widespread demand that extends beyond the Klang Valley.
“Motorcycles have become an essential part of many Malaysian’s livelihoods. Whether it is for work or general transportation, any delay or downtime can be a significant burden for individuals and even families. That’s the reason why we designed iM Rescue specifically to fill this much-needed gap in the market, making it easier for riders to get assistance and repair on the go,” stated Kaha Go, Project Lead, iMotorbike.
Unlike traditional roadside assistance services that primarily tow motorcycles to workshops, iM Rescue is structured to resolve common issues at the point of breakdown whenever possible. Riders can access iM Rescue through an RM 49 one-time rescue request or an annual RM 99 subscription plan, with the service available to all riders regardless of where their motorcycle was purchased.
Kaha further emphasised, “We believe that roadside support must cover all the bases. It should serve as an affordable, quick and accessible way for riders to get their repair needs met without having to suffer delays and uncertainty.”
The expansion of iM Rescue forms part of iMotorbike’s wider strategy to build a more comprehensive and customer-centric motorcycle ecosystem in Malaysia. In addition to its trusted marketplace for pre-owned motorcycles, the company offers professional inspections, financing, insurance, express servicing, repairs and nationwide delivery.
As Malaysia’s motorcycle population continues to grow and existing vehicles remain in use for longer, iMotorbike expects demand for responsive and practical roadside support to increase. Through iM Rescue, the company aims to set a new benchmark for rider assistance by combining operational speed, technical capability and customer convenience into a service tailored to the realities of everyday motorcycle ownership.
